Case Study: EC-Drill® – Extending Length of Wells
EC-Drill® Controlled Mud Level system was applied on the Troll field in the North Sea as depletion meant that long MLT horizontal wells were required through weak sand reservoir to maintain production.
- CHALLENGE: Depleted sand reservoir over many years of production had resulted in lowered fracture gradient and fault zones prone to losses, causing seepage losses and severe lost circulation when drilling
- SOLUTION: Using the EC-Drill® system, it enabled the reduction in ECD to avoid losses while drilling long horizontal holes
- RESULTS: Length of wells were extended and mud losses were reduced, saving operator the associated cost
